Seas 'n Trees... blues 'n greens...

Because the Natural World is Awesome...

New images mostly every day, fresh from Virginia Beach... featuring Sunrises and the Magic that happens where the Sky, the Surf, and the Sand collide and mix into that Mystical State we call the Beach...
So, sit back and enjoy the view... although all the Elements are the same, they mix in entirely different and exciting ways every day... if you can't actually be on the Beach, I'll show you how it was...

High Tide and Birds at 48th Street, VB, 1.31.12

Mid 60s, SW breeze, just a few clouds...
The bait and Stripers have been hanging 2 or 3 miles off the Beach for the last few weeks,
where they're out a bit too far to reach by kayak...
But today, the fleet is only about a half mile off, looks like...
And birds are diving almost up to the outer bar...
Gentle surf, makes an easy launch, and a quick paddle out...

Been dreaming of a day like this all season, they are so rare...
And all i can do for the next couple of weeks is watch...
The Fish Gods are so cruel sometimes, lol

Hard to see here, but the boats are just north and not very far off the end of the pier...
Bird runs the surfline while a Coast Guard Cutter patrols the horizon...
The birds are heading toward some birds working close off 40th Street...
More birds ganging up outside the surfline, i thought i saw some fish breaking, too, but it was a ways away and no binoculars...
This one didn't get the memo, he was waiting for me to toss him some chips, i think...

Quiet Afternoon at 48th Street, VB, 1.30.12

Nice to be back at the Beach this afternoon...
Kind of quiet, just a light breeze...
Blue Skies and Blue Seas...
Good to see you again...
After a few days away...

Rainy Morning, Clear Sunset at 42nd Street, VB, 1.27.12

Mid-60s, south breeze and rain felt almost tropical this morning...

The rain cleared out and the breeze came offshore for a little evening surf...

Yesterday's Sunset at the Beach

A fine end to a nice day...
Still in the 60s when the Sun went down...
In January...
Bonus Day!

Sunset Treasure, 1.24.12, 42nd Street, VB

What is this, washed upon the shore?
What is this, i want to know more...
The tide has carried it so far,
Only to land here,
at my feet...
Washed and tumbled, and washed some more...
A tiny treasure from a distant shore...

The Sun Returns to 42nd Street, VB, 1.24.12

Bright at the Beach today...

Flipper swam by, too...

Fog at 42nd Street Beach, VB, 1.23.12

Fog this morning at the Beach...
Thick, with a whiff of salt...
And a piercing chill that goes right to the bone...
Hot black coffee warms me.
The tide pushes high on the Beach, propelled by the New Moon...
The waves pound, then sizzle and swoosh...
Crisply...
Up on to the Beach

Sudsy Surf at 48th Street, VB, 1.22.12

It's chilly, with a Nor'easter blowin', down at the Beach today...
This isn't the weather that people come to the Beach for, the parking spots are all empty...
But, i've always liked the Nor'easters, they stir things up like nothing else does...
Nor'easters can tear up the Beach worse than a hurricane, i've seen many an old tree, that stood through lots of 'canes, go down in a bad Nor'easter...

The Sea smell was strong today...
lots of fresh oxygen coming off the Ocean...
The sand was swept clean of tracks...
The foamy surf piled the suds thick on the shoreline...
tumbling down the Beach they went, ahead of the wind...
It was cold, but bundled up, i was comfortably snug...
like i was in a spacesuit, exploring the Moon...
'Til the sirens back on the street destroyed the mood...

Grey dawn, 48th Street, VB, 1.21.12

Got out there between the raindrops this morning...
clouds hid the Sun and a SW breeze was just enough to make me flip my hood up...
but it was 50〫out, not bad for a mid-January day...

Dawn, with Dolphins, 48th Street, VB, 1.20.12

A good, strong, Sunrise this morning, with several pods of Dolphins moving South outside of the surfline...

Here's a quick clip of some dolphins cruising just past the surfline...

Rainy Beach, 48th Street, VB, 1.18.12

Beach weather: 65 yesterday, but the wind has switched from south to north, bringing in squalls and dropping temps... will be in the 20s tonight...
Nobody else out there this morning, in the wind and rain...
No footprints when i got there...

Blue Sunrise at 48th Street, VB, 1.17.12

It's gotten warmer overnight at the Beach, up to about 50...
forecast is in the mid-60s...
back to the 50s for the rest of the week...
A hard South breeze has pushed some clouds in...
the Sunrise has a lot of blue, today...
